Giuseppe de Cristoforis died in 1837 bequeathing his collections to the town of Milan on condition that the municipality created a natural history museum whose direction had to be entrusted to Giorgio Jan, who offered his own collections. Cirstoforis meut en 1837 et lègue ses collections à la ville de Milan à la condition que la municipalité créée un muséum d’histoire naturelle dont la direction devra être confiée à Giorgio Jan. Celui-ci d’ailleurs offre également ses propres collections.
